First entry on Raven, from January 6th~

Posted 02-16-2010 at 03:32 PM by elisa_maza
Because I'm super shy about my sculpting projects, I wasn't brave enough to post my progress here, but I did make a few posts in my livejournal. ^^;

But since I've introduced him here now, I figured I'd c/p my old lj entries into this blog, in case anyone's interested ni my progress.

He was already at a point where I was pretty happy with his face in this first post. I didn't feel so bad about the mechanical bits not being perfect, but his face had to be what it was for me to share him.

This is from January 6th, 2010 (text is copy/pasted).

Well, some of you have been with me from the start on this, so you know how terrible he started out. v__v Really, I don't feel 100% comfortable posting him at this point, but I'm sure I'll never be satisfied anyway. ^^;; There are still many MANY things I need to work on, but at least I'm pretty happy with his face at this point. Even if it's not awesome, except for some detailing I can't see anything else that I would know how to change without changing everything. (Uhm ignore the pencil lines please)

Here's what still needs to happen (this is Jan 6th):
  • Tweak the upper lip in profile
  • Finish the ears
  • Smooth out the eye wells to ensure best possible fit for eyes
  • Add some more detail to the lips and eyelids.
  • Add the upper/inner part of the neck where the neck stops and the S-hook rests.
  • MAKE THE HEADCAP FIT OMG WHY IS THIS SO HARD! I bet there's a totally easy way to do this that I should have done. The way I did it was: 1) Build the front of the head around a core ball; 2) Once the face was ok, built the full back of the head onto the front, covering the core; 3) Draw on the headcap line with a pencil; 4) Cut off the headcap with exacto knives. This be where my problem lies, because it was a pain in the ass, and I ended up with an uneven border. By now, I have also added more clay to both parts of the head since I needed to make it bigger, so now fitting the head and headcap together is another step more iffy. -____- And those bits for he magnets, they need HELP.
  • Argh, I feel so clueless showing pics of this, hahaha.
  • Oh and, primer. I think I got the wrong kind, the Mr.Surfacer is not doing what I expected. I'll get something else tomorrow that I can hopefully find at WallyWorld.

It'll all work out in the end, I hope! T__T This boy is such a learning experience. The next one should be easier...? >.>

Omg, he looks huge here... he's really not that big! It's a normal SD-sized head!

And that was it for the first-ever post. I think I have a better plan for the headcap on my next sculpt now. But I need to finish Raven first!
